Jervis Tetch, aka The Mad Hatter is a villain in the Lego Batman series.

Character background[]

"Mad Hatter (real name Jervis Tetch) was inspired by the lunacy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland to commit crimes. He uses his mind-controlling skills to bend people to his will, and is never seen without a large and fantastic (also spelled fanatical) hat." -Lego Batman D.S. and PS2/Xbox 360

The Mad Hatter is an insane villain who often acts as a thief or a kidnapper, apparently obsessed with stealing hats to finish his collection of headwear and use blond girls to play his "Alice" in his own lunacy.

In Lego Batman: The Video Game[]

Mad Hatter

After escaping from Arkham Asylum, Mad Hatter joins forces with The Joker. Hatter is first seen at the Joker's hideout, playing cards with The Scarecrow and Killer Moth. When Crane is busy scaring the Moth, Hatter cheats and replaces his card with a better one he had behind his hat. When the Joker calls the trio up and explains his plan for the Gotham Cathedral, Hatter stays behind at the Chemical Factory in case Batman and Robin show up. When the Dynamic Duo do arrive, Mad Hatter is seen coming unto a leverage (knocking a Joker Goon down a pool of chemicals while we're at it), laughing at the screen and is then fought by the two heroes. Despite using his mind-controlling abilities, Hatter was defeated. In the ending cutscene, he is defeated with a solid punch from Batman which makes his hat cover his eyes.

He is last seen in the epilogue of the adventure, where he is happily sipping tea in his cell at Arkham Asylum while petting a rabbit.

Mad Hatter is a short villain, wearing an outfit that resembles Tenniel's original illustration of the Mad Hatter in Carrol's book. He wears an abnormally large, green hat that contains a mind controlling band inside. He also wears a checkered vest, red tacky bowtie, green jacket, yellow gloves and orange pants. He also has a very large and obvious overbite.

In LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes[]

3 11 Batman2 CharGrid

In Lego Batman 2 Mad Hatter is one of the weakest villains in the game, having no special abilities and is almost the same as a normal Goon, which is ironic considering how many abilities he had in the first game. Mad Hatter appears outside of the Gotham Theatre and once defeated he can be purchased for 100,000 Studs.

In LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham[]

Mad Hatter, along with Deadshot and Deathstroke can be found and unlocked in the mission "Big Trouble in Little Gotham". He has a new ability to throw cards in this game. Others like mind control return except for the double jump. He can be unlocked for 150,000 Studs.

His appearance here is based directly off of his look in the animated series.

Equipment and abilities[]

Mad Hatter has an expertise in demolitions, carries a pistol around, and has the ability to use travel-chutes, but only on DS where his legs are shortened down. He also has a unique double-jump, due to a propeller in his hat and can mind control civilians and guards to open doors.

Appearance[]

Mad Hatter wears a large green hat with a yellow card on the right of it. He wears a green suit with a red tie and a blue-checkered vest over a white shirt. He wears yellow gloves and orange pants, and he also has two big front teeth. On the DS version, he has shorter legs and a bit of blond hair on the front and the side.

Trivia[]

  • Mad Hatter and Man-Bat are the only villains that need to be bought from the Shop as other villains become unlockable during the villain storyline missions.
  • Mad Hatter's head in the character customisation is a bit different than his actual one; he has a wide and evil smile across his face and it actually seems to be the head he has on the DS version, minus the hair.
  • Like the Scarecrow, Hatter gets betrayed by The Joker in the DS version of the game.
