Dr. Harleen Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn is one of the main villains in LEGO Batman: The Video Game and a minor villain in the future series.

Character Background[]

"Dr. Harleen Quinzel was The Joker's psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum... until she fell in love with him and reinvented herself as the madcap villain Harley Quinn." - Lego Batman DS and console info

Harleen Quinzel was a budding and cheerful psychiatrist with an obsession for the criminally insane, specifically the Joker at Arkham. While serious business at first, an interview turned into a date after the Joker twisted her mind with possibly false origin stories and using his persuasive charms to make her feel bad for him. After coming to the conclusion that her "puddin'" didn't belong in Arkham and was imprisoned unjustly, she donned a jester's costume and became his on-and-off girlfriend, Harley Quinn, and had become insane as he was.

She is an accomplished acrobat, who will do anything to prove her love and loyalty to her beloved Joker, although Joker rather sees her as a tool or an assist than to actually have feelings for her.

In LEGO Batman: The Videogame[]

After breaking from Arkham, Harley joined Joker's group, of course, and served as a right-hand-woman to the Clown. She, Joker, Mad Hatter, The Scarecrow and Killer Moth hid at Joker's place, where the Joker ordered her to carry purple boxes full of Joker Gas in front of the GCPD headquarters. When Harley returned and explained to her Pudding that there was no more Joker Gas, Joker send Jervis to Ace Chemicals to retrieve it, while him and Harley went to the abandoned amusement park to set up a trap for Commissioner Gordon, lured there by a Joker Goon.

After defeating the policemen and Gordon himself using some explosive teddy bears, they made Gordon hide in a cage which was later attached to Harley Quinn's Hammer Truck and they took him off to the Big Top where they planed various ways to kill him. They send taunting videos of this to the Caped Crusader to lure him into a trap as well.

When Batman and Robin came there, Harley fought Robin with both a hammer and an alligator while Batman broke Gordon free. While Joker escaped on his helicopter, Harley was captured and put in a police van.

During mission 4 in Chapter 3 (villains' side), Joker and Killer Moth manage to break Harley out of the GCPD's clutches. While Joker and Quinn manage to escape to the cathedral, Moth stays behind to deal with Batman and Robin.

After Moth was detained, Harley was the sole member of Joker's gang to reach the cathedral with the Joker. She made her grand entrance, flipping across the cathedral's roof and knocking a bunch of Goons down with her backside before fighting the Caped Crusaders while Joker went up the tower. After her defeat, she went to the attic of the cathedral, where she and Joker fought Batman and Robin two-on-two. After destroying the Joker Goon's helicopter, Joker and Harley were defeated as well in fist-fight.

Not wanting to give up, Joker used his joy-buzzer on an electrical machinery to shock the heroes, however Batman was able to throw a batarang at the cathedral bells, making a swarm of bats scaring Joker and Harley.

In the ending cutscene, she is seen obsessing over the Clown Prince of Crime's posters in her cell, seemingly at home.

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes[]

In Lego Batman 2 DC Super Heroes, Harley Quinn is first spotted with The Joker in the first mission, along with Joker, Two-Face, Riddler, and Penguin, although she doesn't serve as his henchwoman here. After she and the other villains interrupt the Man of the Year Award ceremony, Batman and Robin confront them. Harley tries to buy the others some time by fighting the duo with her goons but is defeated and escorted to Arkham Asylum with her allies. Not long afterwards, Lex Luthor and the Joker free her and the other inmates in Gotham City using the Deconstructor. She, along with Two-Face and Riddler, tries to escape in Two-Face's truck, but Batman and Robin intervene and the truck is crashed, knocking her, Two-Face, and Riddler unconscious. After the other escaped villains are contained by the duo, Harley and the other inmates manage to apprehend the police arresting them and cause an even bigger outbreak than before. She travels to Amusement Mile, where she is defeated by Batman and Robin and then can be purchased for 125,000 Studs.

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham[]

Harley Quinn appears in LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham but her role in this game is comparatively small, similar to the prequel. She has no part in the main plot despite being The Joker's girlfriend. In the game's credits, she appears out of the endless building poking her head out of a window to comment on how Joker didn't take her into space. She is a quest character and once they're all completed, she can be unlocked for 150,000 studs.

Battle[]

LEGO Batman: The Videogame[]

During her first fight, she tries to shoot Batman and Robin with a gun if they're far away from her. If they get too close to Harley, she will begin doing backwards cartwheels in a circle to avoid them. In order to attack Harley, Batman and Robin must make her do backwards cartwheels until she gets dizzy, allowing her to be attacked (she may sometimes bounce away from Batman and Robin if they're too slow). When she is left with 4 hearts, she will jump away and summon 3 Jack in the Box toy thugs, who will begin shooting at Batman and Robin upon being summoned; defeating them will allow Harley to jump back into the arena and fight. Once Harley is left with 2 hearts, she will jump away and summon 6 Joker Henchman on balloons, who begin attacking upon being summoned; once they have been defeated, Harley jumps back into the arena, allowing Batman and Robin to finish her off and the cutscene will play.

In Free Play mode, even if the player uses a character who uses a gun, shooting at her from a far will not make her lose a heart, so she'll still need to be in a dizzy state for a hit.

Trivia[]

  • In DS version of the first game, she picks The Joker up with her hammer truck after each mission, deliberately leaving his other allies behind.
  • Her beta version had a different face and had red and black mask outlets on each side of her face.
  • She appears to be comically strong, for she can lift up and carry a crocodile and uses a large hammer to smash her opponents on the head by jumping up in the air with it. Despite this, she lacks the super-strength ability.
